If you would like to step back in time to an era when rich dark wood furniture, sparkling glassware and elegant silver tea services were in vogue,  then Victorian Rose Antiques, located at 104 West Main Street in historic downtown (McMinnville, Tennessee) is the place you want to be.

This unique and colorful antique emporium is owned and operated by Francis W. Hillis, who can expertly guide you through the literally hundreds of exquisite pieces that fill her shop from wall to wall.  Her knowledge of antiques comes from over two decades of experience collecting items from all around the region.

Hillis said her growing collection actually led her to open a business, since it eventually increased beyond her available storage area.

"I started antique collecting in early 1982 with my mother, Mae Walker of Beersheba Springs," Hillis said.  "She had always loved antiques.  This soon became my hobby and I would go to estate sales, tag sales and auctions.  I also checked newspaper ads.  As a result, I had two houses full of furniture, glassware and other items.  With the completion of downtown Main Street, I decided to open Victorian Rose Antiques and it has been wonderful...We carry primitive to Victorian antique furniture, Davis Cabinet furniture, glassware, such as Nippon, Fenton, Carnival, Press Glass, King's Crown, cranberry thumbprint and antique crystal.  My love has always been Victorian."

Hillis is partial to the rich colors and textures of cherry and walnut and a great many of her pieces are made of these woods.  In addition to an excellent selection of sumptuous bedroom suites, Hillis carries a wide variety of other types of solid wood furniture.

"We have sugar chests, corner cupboards, sideboards, as well as a walnut hunt board." Hillis said.

The store is also the place to go for accessories and appointments to complete the decorating scheme for any room.

We have nice lamps, cranberry lamps, framed pictures, mirrors, footstools, figurines and an 1847 Rogers Remembrance silver service... We have items from ladies handkerchiefs to a bride's bonnet... Please plan on visiting our shop soon..."
